 Meet Tristan

Moffat Beach, Sunshine Coast

Born and raised around the ocean, Tristan’s story starts on North Stradbroke Island — where he first got into surfing and built a love for the water that’s stuck ever since.

After spending time living in Coolum Beach, he’s now settled in Moffat Beach — a place he’s proud to call home.

Give us a bit of your background — where you grew up and what led you to Moffat Beach?
I grew up and started surfing on North Straddie. We met some good friends up on the Sunny Coast and ended up moving to Coolum for a couple of years. After that we landed in Moffat, and I’m so happy to call it home.

What keeps you coming back to the ocean every day?
It could be so many things. I feel like I can’t go a week without getting out for a paddle — it’s a really good break from everything. The ocean’s just the most calming place.

Favourite local spots around Moffat / Caloundra?
Wurtulla would probably be my favourite — definitely my go-to place to surf.

What’s a typical day look like for you?
During the week I’m up early for work and try to smash it out so I can get home earlier for a surf. Then maybe go for a ride down to Moffat with mates.

What got you into surfing in the first place?
My mum was a big reason I got into surfing, but also watching Ethan Ewing surf at Main Beach on Straddie. That’s when I found out about the World Surf League — after that I couldn’t get enough of it.

Who or what has influenced your surfing the most?
Just watching local pros rip makes me want to surf more and push to get better.

Favourite type of waves to surf?
I enjoy surfing everything really, but a nice point break will always be my favourite.

A moment in the surf that’s stuck with you?
Probably one of the most memorable moments was surfing at Noosa on a really nice small day when a baby whale shark started swimming around me. I let him cruise past and even got to touch his fin — such a cool experience.

What do you love most about the Sunny Coast surf community?
Probably just how chilled out it is compared to other places. It’s always a good vibe.

What does the perfect day look like for you?
Go for a surf, grab a coffee and some breakfast, then head back out for another surf. After that, head home, have a few beers by the pool with mates, then go watch the sunset.

What drew you to Habitat / what made you want to ride with us?
I first saw the Mudjimba Island tee and thought it was sickkk. Then I had a flick through the Habitat Instagram and loved everything the brand was about.

Go-to Habitat piece right now?
The Gasoline tee is probably my go-to — really easy to style and I love how it fits. The Mudjimba tees will always be up there too, I loved surfing out there.

If you want, next move I’d suggest is turning this into a carousel (About Tristan → quotes → lifestyle → product plug) — this one will translate really well visually 🤝
